Border officials say the attack bolsters President Trump’s claims that the U.S.-Mexico border is more lawless than official statistics indicate.

U.S. Border Patrol El Centro Sector officials confirmed that a hiker was shot and robbed by “suspected cartel members" while exploring an area of San Diego County near the U.S.-Mexico border with a group.

"The safety of our citizens is not negotiable, cartel terrorists have no place in our country preying on the innocent," said Bovino. "Enough is enough."
