Penn State has officially lost its defensive coordinator. Tom Allen, after one just season with the Nittany Lions, was formally named Clemson’s new defensive coordinator on Tuesday afternoon.

Dismissed as Indiana head coach at the end of 2023 (his third consecutive losing season), he has found new life in an old gig: defensive play caller. "It's about my family," former Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Allen said of leaving the Penn State Nittany Lions for Clemson after one season.

Franklin was at Mater Dei on Thursday morning, perennially one of the nation's top football programs and a recruiting hotbed.

Allen, he said, wasn’t looking for a job. He was laser-focused on Penn State’s CFP semifinal game against Notre Dame at the Orange Bowl. The Nittany Lions made the field as an at-large team (No. 6 seed) and won games against SMU and Boise State.
