The Pirates (14-28) will try and rebound following a tough loss when they take on the Mets (27-15) in the second game of the series on Tuesday night.
The first two games of this series between the New York Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates at Citi Field have represented how the season has gone for each of these
The Mets scored in the first off of a run kind of manufactured by Juan Soto. Soto singled with one out, stole second, and was chased home by a Brandon Nimmo double. That 1-0 lead would hold all the way until the sixth, with Keller dominating and Senga wriggling out of trouble. He stopped being able to wriggle in the sixth, though.
The Mets announced their lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh, and notably, manager Carlos Mendoza is opting to sit Soto out. This will mark his first missed game of the season, assuming he does not pinch hit. Amid his first game out of the lineup, Soto made a big announcement.
The Pittsburgh Pirates lost again on Tuesday night when they were defeated 2-1 by the New York Mets at Citi Field. Mitch Keller tossed 7.0-strong innings but the offense went 0 for 13 with runners in scoring position as their prolonged struggles continue.
The Mets answered back in the fourth inning against Skenes. Nimmo led off the inning with a line drive double, and then center fielder Jeff McNeil, swinging on the first pitch, followed with a one-out double to right field to tie the game 1-1.
Soto has been outperformed by Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor thus far. Alonso is slashing .310/.419/.589 with nine homers and 36 RBI, while Lindor is slashing .302/.366/.500 with nine homers and 26 RBI.
