Doctors Without Borders on Monday halted its operations in Sudan’s famine-stricken Zamzam camp due to an escalation of attacks and fighting in the vicinity.

Medical charity MSF has been forced to suspend its activities in a famine-stricken camp in Sudan's North Darfur because of heavy fighting in the area, it said on Monday. The charity was one of the few still working in the besieged Zamzam camp which houses around half a million people displaced by Sudan's 22-month civil war.

Doctors Without Borders, or Médecins Sans Frontières, has been forced to halt lifesaving aid in a famine-hit camp in Sudan as fighting escalates. As a result of the halt, more than half a million people are starving and trapped without medical aid.

MSF said it has suspended all activities in Zamzam camp, Sudan, which homes around 500,000 people seeking safety from the conflict.
